Spider Cherry Picker Platform

At Blakemore and Chell we invest in equipment to make sure we complete your job in the safest and most cost efficient way.

Blakemore and Chell Spider

This gives you the peace of mind of a competitive quote without cutting corners and with the least fuss. One example of our investment is in the Spider 18.90 platform or Cherry Picker.

Any work at height often involves scaffolding and ladders, with our spider this is all bypassed making a quicker job and a lot less disturbance.

You may wonder why we need to work at this height – for new installations we have to put the flue liner down the chimney and we can do this really easily in the spider. Also, because the engineer is in the platform they aren’t in contact with your  roof there’s less chance of any damage to your roof tiles or guttering when ladders are leant against them.

The Spider 18.90 can reach a maximum height of 18 metres and a sideways reach of 9 metres. It has an articulated boom with fly jib for greater versatility, is lightweight and easily transportable and has an excellent weight/horizontal outreach ratio.

Blakemore and Chell’s spider platform is agile and stable thanks to the variable track width for extra stability while travelling, and can work safely on different land heights.

Which Wood To Burn?

Ever wondered which wood to use in your wood burning or multi fuel stove? You may not know it but we have a pretty comprehensive list of woods to burn in our firewood guide.

Our A-Y of woods from Alder to Yew ( we’re not aware of a wood beginning with Z yet) will guide you through the ease of chopping and typical burn characteristics of each type of fire wood. So next time you are getting some logs to burn on your wood burning / multi fuel stove or for your fire, take a few seconds to check which kind of wood you are getting – all woods are not created equal (especially for burning).

You can read our full wood burning guide on our website under the Wood & Multifuel stoves tab in our Buyers Guides

What are Smoke Exempt SE Stoves?

Smoke Exempt appliances

Exempt appliances are appliances (ovens, wood burners and stoves) which have been exempted under the Clean Air Act 1993 or Clean Air (Northern Ireland) Order 1981. These have passed tests to confirm that they are capable of burning an unauthorised or inherently smoky solid fuel without emitting smoke.

Smoke Exempt Logo

The Clean Air Acts were originally  introduced in the 1958 and 1968 to combat the smogs of this period caused by the widespread use of coal for home and industry. The smogs were blamed for the early death and ill health of many people. The Acts controlled the burning of coal in many of the cities and larger towns in the UK and were further updated and consolidated in the Clean Air Act of 1993.

Smoke Control Areas

Under the Clean Air Act local authorities may declare the whole or part of the district of the authority to be a smoke control area. It is an offence to emit smoke from a chimney of a building, from a furnace or from any fixed boiler if located in a designated smoke control area. It is also an offence to acquire an “unauthorised fuel” for use within a smoke control area unless it is used in an “exempt” appliance (“exempted” from the controls which generally apply in the smoke control area). The current maximum level of fine is £1,000 for each offence. If you are unsure whether you are in a Smoke Control Area your local authority will be able to advise you, they should also be able to advise you on approved appliances and fuel types that you can use.

Here at Blakemore & Chell we stock a range of DEFRA approved smoke exempt stoves. If you would like any more information on smoke exempt stoves or have any other heating related questions please call us on 01538 382387 or have a look through our online store

New AGA Stretton SE Stove

Blakemore and Chell are very pleased to announce that AGA are introducing a dedicated version of the highly popular Stretton Stove, the Stretton SE, which has achieved the combustion standards required to meet the Smoke Exemption requirements.

Smoke Exempt AGA Ludlow SE

The Stretton SE is the latest addition to the AGA Stove range. Specifically designed to burn wood, and to burn it so efficiently as to meet the stringent requirements of the Clean Air Act – the low particulate emissions from the SE means that this product is fully approved to burn wood in smoke control zones (typically associated with urban centres of population)

This addition to AGA’s range of cast iron stoves once again underlines AGA’s continuing commitment to the market and you can expect further models as they expand the range.

AGA Stretton SE

The Stretton SE is a cassette style inset stove and operates on wood only, with a nominal heat output of 4.9kW, with 78.4% efficiency. It is suitable for burning wood only. It has been designed to be easy to install, has a removable shaker grate, ash pan, fire fence and front ash tray. It has the classic AGA black wire handle and will look equally at home in a traditional or contemporary setting.

All figures are based on standard test refuelling cycles. As with all solid fuel appliances, increasing the fuel load over and above these standards will result in higher outputs.

Benefits

  •  Up to 78.4% efficient
  • Easy slot in to 16” or 18” Fireplace
  • Adjustable secondary air wash system for clean glass
  • Rotating grate for easy de-ashing
  • Suitable for burning wood only
  • Cool touch black AGA handle
  • Overnight burning capability

The Stretton SE will only be available as a dry model and with a Matt Black finish.

The AGA Stretton SE is only available in store and cannot be ordered through our online store. Please call us on 01538 382387 for availability and our best price.

Airflow Technology

The new Stretton SE uses Active Airwash Technology (AAT).

The interior construction of every AGA stove is individually designed and precisely engineered and the Stretton SE is an outstanding example; with hidden baffles, ducts and channels, so that air enters, circulates, leaves the stove in the most efficient way and keeps the glass clean. This is essential if you are to achieve the maximum heat output. Efficient fuel combustion is also the key to economy and low emissions.
